New Athens to Istanbul Flight

Aegean Airlines began a new route from Athens Airport to Istanbul last week. The first flight took off on September 9th with the service operating on a daily basis. An Airbus A321 is being used for the flight which can cater for one hundred and ninety five passengers.

This is the latest route added by Aegean Airlines with the company continuing its steady growth. The airline plans to cater for more international flights from Greece in the near future. Last year Aegean reported a fourteen percent increase in passenger numbers on the previous year which amounted to a total of six million customers.

At present Aegean use thirty one planes and offers forty eight domestic and international routes. They provide around two hundred flights per day. The airline has received many awards over the years particularly at Athens Airport where it has contributed substantially to passenger growth. They received the regional airline award the recent Skytrax awards.

New London to Athens Route

A new twice daily London Heathrow to Athens Airport route has been announced by Aegean Airlines. The flights will begin operation on October 25th with take off times set at 12.45 and 17.20.

The airline believes that these flights will appeal to both business travelers and sun seekers. Many will connect to other holiday locations in Greece such as Corfu, Rhodes and Kefalonia using another Aegean Airlines service.

Airbus A321 planes will be used on this route. These planes have just been purchased by the airline. Meals will be offered on board as well as a media offering which will include movies.

New Birmingham to Athens Route

The Greek Airline Hellenic Imperial Airways has announced plans for a regular Birmingham Airport to Athens Airport route. The flight will operate four times a week utilizing a four hundred and fifty six seater jet.

The move certainly shows confidence in the airlines belief in the success of the route. Two of the flights will connect to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia from Athens. A spokesman for the UK route Ahmed Chowdhury said that he believed there is certainly a market in Birmingham for such a route pointing to the large Greek population in the area.

He also believes that the large number of Muslims in the west midlands will make the connecting Saudi Arabia flight a popular choice. Jeddah is considered to be a gateway to Mecca which considered by many Muslims to be a place you must visit at least once.

The airline also has plans to offer a flights from Athens to Morocco which provides another travel option for UK tourists. The Athens-Birmingham flights will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Hellenic Imperial Airways don’t consider themselves a budget airline and will offer premium seats as well as economy seats.
